The family of slain UK-based Zimbabwean mother Nothabo Zandile Khumalo has turned away a delegation from the Tshuma family, rejecting attempts to coordinate funeral arrangements for Nothabo and her two young daughters, Natalie and Nala.
The trio was laid to rest at old Luveve Cemetery in Bulawayo.
A Khumalo family member says a delegation from the Tshuma family visited their home in Gwabalanda, Bulawayo, last weekend to discuss the tragedy and raise the question of burial arrangements. The family confirms the meeting was brief, and the delegation was sent away.
The Khumalos cite three reasons for the rejection: relations between the two families had already broken down before the killings; the Tshuma family did not send a condolence message following the deaths; and no apology has been issued for the killing of their daughter and grandchildren.
Nothabo and her daughters were found dead in Great Denham, England, in early July. Her husband, Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, also known as Mark, is accused of killing them before fleeing the UK. He was later arrested in Johannesburg, South Africa, following an international manhunt involving Bedfordshire Police, Interpol and the South African Police Service.
Tshuma remains in custody in South Africa as extradition proceedings continue. He also faces a separate charge of illegal possession of a firearm in South Africa.
