Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur, nearly 30 years after the hip-hop star was fatally shot in Las Vegas.
A jury reached the verdict after less than three hours of deliberations. Davis, 63, faces a possible life sentence without parole and is due to be sentenced on October 13.
Shakur was shot four times on September 7, 1996, while travelling in a BMW with Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight. He died six days later at the age of 25.
Prosecutors said the shooting was retaliation for an earlier fight involving Shakur and Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand.
Although Davis was not accused of pulling the trigger, prosecutors said he helped organise the attack and supplied the weapon.
Defence lawyer Michael Sanft argued there was insufficient evidence linking Davis directly to the crime.
“There’s no proof,” Sanft told the jury during closing arguments.
Davis, who was arrested in 2023, has indicated that he plans to appeal the conviction.
The verdict marks the first successful prosecution in the murder of Tupac Shakur, one of the most enduring unsolved cases in music history.
